Operation Barefoot 2012!

Shoes are being collected.  Stop by St. Luke's if you need a 'foot'!

Thank you to Walgreen's for once again sponsoring shoe drives.

Fifteen members of St. Luke's are signed up and ready to head down over Thanksgiving week to serve the community of La Paz.  Pray for them as they prepare.

September Mission Trip

September Trip:

All of the children at the foundation work very hard, go to school, pray several times a day together and need some help.  While I was down there, Mama Doris got her first Social Security check as a retiree and will be able to spend more of her time at the Foundation.  What I found sad was that there are very few sponsors who are giving a regular monthly gift.  Please consider sponsoring one of the children or even giving a one time donation.  The Foundation is a place where any and all of the members of St. Luke’s are welcome to come visit as part of a mission trip or just a personal trip.  The trip for me was cleansing for my soul.  I read my Bible more than I ever have.  I came back to Florida so rich with God’s purpose for my life. The Children of Love Foundation is just waiting for any love and attention that we can give.

I guess it was Pastor Arp’s sermon that got me so involved and passionate.  One Sunday, He said it with such intensity “Just get involved” by participating in more than just church every Sunday.  He said “Try our Bible classes” or “Get involved with our mission trips” or help out with “Trick or Treat” or “From Everywhere to Bethlehem.” “Is it too much to do  to give just a little more for our God, when God has given us the most wonderful gift of all, His Son, Jesus Christ and the gift of eternal life.  Please help the Children of Love Foundation

With much love and hope - please listen to the Word and live out with joy the salvation God has given us as His children.  Thank you.

Safe on the ground

In Miami.

San Pedro Sula Airport

Tired but.....

Checked in

We are checked in at San Pedro Sula and ready to return.  The bus ride was smooth.  The fish was good and the airport is relatively quiet.  Will check in again at Miami.

We miss the kids.  :(

Saturday!

One of the hardest things to do sometimes is describe a mission trip to others who are not here.  Today was filled with many small activities:

  • Finishing the painting of the flags
  • Saturday morning program with about 70 kids - Complete with songs, Bible story about Jesus cooking fish after His resurrection, water balloons and a pinata (supplied by the U.S. Soto Cano base liasons)
  • A trip to Comoyagua
  • A heavy thunderstorm
  • Making pizza's and dessert for the kids
  • A prayer of thanksgiving for healing for Katie (Doris' grand-daughter) with candles
  • Singing and dancing with the kids
All of these events may seem pretty straight-forward and simple yet it was the final day of our trip. The children are asking us to stay.  Some would love to come back with us.  The emotions of the last day are hard for both the children and the group.  The great comfort comes to us again in God's Word - His assurance that we are all one family and even though we may be separated here for a while, eternity waits for us.  Jesus is preparing His kingdom for all of us.  We have learned this week that we can TRUST that message because God has proven Himself faithful throughout the history of the world.

So we get ready to return home to Florida tomorrow.  We have seen a group of people who need to know more about their Savior.  We have seen a country that is very poor and struggles with educating and feeding their citizens.  We have played each day with children who do not get to live in their family homes but come together here to be a new family.  The needs for them are great and we have seen that the Lord has given us the ability to help them.

Pray for them.  Support them.  Visit them here.  Share the Gospel so that this country and ours will live out the love given to them in the mercy of Jesus Christ.  Thanks for spending the week with us.
